Very nice. I hope they're planning a non-platinum version for us common folk.

Agreed. It's a lot of money to pay for something that won't even write on it's own!

Plus, most of the pencils I like are less than $5 -- plugging it into this thing just doesn't feel right.

If they came out with a chrome, brushed steel/aluminum, or even lacquer one for less than $50, I'd get it.

The one pictured is the Graf von Faber-Castell version. There's also an ordinary Faber-Castell version, which is a bit less expensive (around £20/$40), and the Castell 9000 version in green plastic at around £10/$20.

I think the price on this is way over the top. The whole website is more about throwing money around on novelty/luxury items. You couldn't really even realistically give these out as wedding party gifts, like flasks and things, which is too bad because writing implements would be really good for that sort of thing.

The Perfect Pencil is available in a wide range of materials and prices. I bought one made of black plastic for 2,50€ last week, which is probably the cheapest model you can get.

It's funny that you are promoting this pencil as if it were an obtainable object. What is this, a luxury magazine? get real
