All I can say this week is that I wish it were easier to procure Doane paper.

New year, new journal? Or, do you continue with the same journal?

How about any New Year's resolutions relating to notebooks? I looked at my stack of unused ones and tried to resolve not to buy any more for a while... but that may prove difficult!

New year, new mole. But I took a few hours to look back through 30 years of my journals and project notebooks. Many different formats, all purchased at deep closeout discounts. The shelf is eclectic and I find myself wondering if standardizing on the mole pocket form factor is somehow stifling.

I really like the uniformity. Just black notebooks, then I have accumulated typed sheets for my journal. White sheets, grouped neatly in manila envelopes. I like that Moleskine as a workhorse is "nothing fancy". It's great that people love colorful and leather journals, but that sometimes seems to ask that I write to tailor to a certain mood. The black cover is like a blank slate. It doesn't comment.

Yar, but I just l-o-v-e those red covers! And I'm hoping the Helvetica crimson comes the States soon.

I have a red one and I call it My Book of Common Prayer (those books are always red). I bet most people have a variety, don't you think? Even if you know what you like you try out different things. I was thinking I may get one of the Van Gogh notebooks. Like blue or purple. They have the whole rainbow of colors. Of course you have to buy them online and they only have come in the small size.

New year, new Moleskine for me. But that's because I make my own planners so would need a new one each year. This is my second year of home made planners. Last year, I used a large ruled M, this year's a large square M. I also use pocket Cahiers for daily planning catch-all - 2 months to one Cahier. Just day and date on top of each page.

One thing that works well for me in this regard (I had lost my planner--another kind). Just for quickly doing it (and I guess I have few appointments).
You just write the numbers of the month down the side, like 1, 2, 3, and I found it imperative to put down the day of the week next to THAT. Then I did put my appointments on the approapriate days. I will say I had to make sure and keep careful track of what day of the week it was and corresponding to the days going down the list. I got the idea from the front of the Moleskine Planner where they have a section for special dates? Like I said, you have to be sure to at least check things out visually on a wall calendar because I don't thin the brain fully accepts this other, but it worked temporarily.

Found this after much googling:
http://www.vangoghmuseumshop.com/ProductOverview.htm?page=1&category=Notebooks
The silk Van Gogh moles are listed at US$23.00, plus priority shipping of is about $15.00 for a single notebook. Bummer none of the US mole importers have them for sale.
Anyone want to put together a bulk order from Amsterdam? I'm good for at least two units. We'd need someone to handle prepaid orders in escrow and then ship them to participants. Guessing the total cost would be $35.00-40.00 per book by the time they were packed and shipped twice.
Must be someone in this family who can swing a deal like this.

hello,
I'm just about to start a new moleskin, and i'm getting first page anxieties.
what do you guys write on the first page? Do you just leave it blank? I plan to use the notebook to, well, keep notes on things i read, and hear, and see.
Any input or thoughts would be cool!
Thanks!

Some people do something to the first page on purpose, like draw a squiggly line through it so that the idea of being perfect disappears. Or to get yourself going you could copy down some quotes to get yourself moving.

I don't know if anyone will see it here: Modofly and other companies that were doing engravings on Moleskine notebooks found out that this process created a deadly work environment for the engraver. So Modofly is switching to another brand and IMHO this means that those engraved notebooks that you can still purchase from their stock will be rare collectibles and you might want to think about scarfing some of them up. Just a thought. I emailed the company. They aren't going out of business but they are switching to other notebooks. He says even more cool. As if!
